This Department is responsible for the development and review of the technical Rules for both existing and new vessels, on which the implementation of class surveys and related requirements are based. The Department also oversees the compilation and coordination of technical research plans and similar activities.

The technical rules are continually reviewed and revised ensuring that the Rules are always up-to-date and continue to achieve their purpose.  With regards to research we conduct a wide range of technical topics, always with a view towards the future direction of new technology in joint efforts from an Independent Accredited third party Laboratory.
